  • Univentricular palliation for a child with severe Uhl's anomaly

    2022, JTCVS Techniques
    Citation Excerpt :

The main manifestation of Uhl's anomaly is right heart failure, and some other manifestations may also appear, such as cyanosis, arrhythmia, thromboembolism, and conduction block.7,10,11 Uhl's anomaly needs to be distinguished from the parchment heart, arrhythmogenic RV cardiomyopathy, and Ebstein anomaly.1,9 Combined with CMR, ultrasound, and pathology results, we concluded that this case was one of the more severe forms of Uhl's anomaly, in which almost all of the right ventricular myocardium was missing, as a result, we performed a univentricular palliation rather than one and a half ventricle repair.

  • Uhl's anomaly: A rare disease with few therapeutic options

    2020, Progress in Pediatric Cardiology
    Citation Excerpt :

Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the most important diagnostic imaging since it identifies UA's main characteristic, which is a very thin RV free wall with total or partial absence of the myocardium [4]. The prognosis is still poor and there is no curative surgical procedure available so far [2]. Palliative measures are considered, including systemic-to-pulmonary shunts, univentricular repair or one and one-half ventricle repair with partial right ventriculoplasty.
